Pixelteca is run by artists, designers and longtime Magic: The Gathering fans who care way too much about how a card feels when it hits the table.
We started Pixelteca because custom MTG proxy art sits right at the intersection of the things we love: fantasy art, card design, storytelling, typography, deck identity and the small visual details that make a card feel like it belongs in someone’s collection.
A proxy can be more than a placeholder. It can match the personality of a Commander deck, give a favorite card a new visual direction, turn a token into something memorable or make a whole deck feel more cohesive. That is the part we enjoy most.
We’re MTG Fans First
We know the feeling of building a deck around one weird commander, obsessing over the land package, choosing sleeves that match the theme and then realizing the tokens look like an afterthought.
Pixelteca exists for players who care about that stuff.
We like cards that feel personal. We like deck themes that tell a story. We like art that makes someone across the table pick up the card and say, “Wait, that’s awesome.”
That is the energy behind the site.
We’re Artists And Designers Too
Our focus is not just making something look cool in isolation. Good custom card design has to work as a card.
That means thinking about:
- Readability: The name, type line, mana cost and rules text still need to be easy to understand.
- Composition: The art should feel balanced inside the frame instead of fighting the layout.
- Color And Mood: A card should fit the deck, character, tribe or theme it belongs to.
- Style Consistency: Tokens, basics and themed cards look better when they feel like part of the same world.
- Print Awareness: Tiny details, contrast and border choices matter more once the design leaves the screen.
We love the creative side, but we also care about the practical side. A beautiful card still needs to be usable.

Our Design Philosophy
We think the best custom MTG designs do three things well.
First, they respect the function of the card. You should be able to recognize what the card is and use it during a game without confusion.
Second, they add personality. A custom design should say something about the deck, the player or the idea behind the card.
Third, they feel polished. The art, frame, type, color and spacing should work together instead of feeling like separate pieces pasted into the same file.
That balance is where custom card design gets interesting.
Why Pixelteca Exists
Magic is already a creative game. Every deck is a little self-portrait: what colors you like, what strategies you enjoy, what creatures you think are cool and how much chaos you are willing to bring to the table.
Pixelteca is here for the visual side of that.
We want to help players, collectors and creators explore custom card art in a way that feels thoughtful, readable and fun. Sometimes that means designing a single commander. Sometimes it means building a full visual theme for a deck. Sometimes it just means writing about why a certain art style works so well on a trading card.
Either way, we are here for the same reason you probably are: we love the game, we love the art and we think the cards should feel as personal as the decks they belong to.
